Guidelines and Instructions: the NPC Working Paper Series
Guidelines
- We welcome Working Paper submissions from:
- NPC Senior Research Affiliates
- NPC University of Michigan and Local Affiliates
- NPC Research Affiliates
- Other researchers, by invitation. In particular, papers that are part of conferences or other NPC-sponsored events will typically be included in the NPC working paper series.
Up to two papers by an author can be published within a one-year period. Papers that are produced for NPC conferences or NPC-sponsored research projects do not count against this two-paper limit.
- Submitted papers should be work that is complete and ready
for public presentation. Papers should be primarily analytical
or research-oriented; for instance, an op-ed piece would not
be an appropriate submission, but a public talk that reviews
the literature and synthesizes information would be appropriate.
- A core NPC researcher will function as editor of the working
paper series, and will look through submitted papers before
approving them for inclusion. He/she will primarily ensure that
papers are ready for public presentation.
- Persons who submit papers to the National Poverty Center Working
Paper series are in no way limited from submitting the same
paper to other working paper series to which they may have access.
Inclusion of a paper in the Working Paper series does not constitute
publication and should not limit publication in any other venue.
Alternatively, if a paper is electronically available elsewhere, its abstract will be included on the NPC site in HTML and a link to the external web site will be provided.
- The NPC Working Paper series will be posted on the NPC website and available at no cost to anyone browsing the
site. Abstracts will be presented in HTML. Each abstract and
its accompanying paper will also be made available in PDF.
- Occasionally, the NPC will develop and distribute policy-focused
research briefs from a single working paper or as a compilation
of several papers. Full attribution will be included and authors
will be asked to review drafts for accuracy.
- The NPC may contact authors when papers have been posted.
Titles and abstracts of new working papers will be announced
publicly via regular email notices to NPC contacts.
- The NPC will present each working paper with the following
explanatory text: "Any opinions, findings, conclusions,
or recommendations expressed in this material are those of the
author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the view of the National
Poverty Center or any sponsoring agency."
